Good Luck or Blessings From God?

(by Gary Godfrey - March 19, 2008)

I received an interesting note from a reader this week. She signed it Linda.

It seems Linda read my article about the Grise Family and the point I made that if everyone in our circulation area gave $5 each, we could raise $51,055. “I was touched by the article, since the couple was around my age,” Linda wrote with emotion.

“I laid the paper aside, thinking I would send a donation later. My husband tossed the paper away and I just kind of forgot about it. Then I received this week’s paper, and read your article entitled “Thank You” for all the donations you have received. I thought, Oh, I forgot to send in my donation.”

“On the day I read the article, my daughter and I went shopping. We were going into a store that was going out of business. I happened to look down as I was entering the door, and there laid a $5.00 bill. I picked it up and immediately thought about your column and how everyone could afford a $5.00 donation. I told my daughter about the story, and that it was ironic, because I had never found money lying on the street or anywhere before. I told her I was gong to send it to the couple I had read about in your column. I just think it was meant for me to do that. The enclosed $5.00 marked with an X is the one I found. The other $5.00 is my original donation. Maybe this will bring Xtra good luck to the couple in your column and good luck to me and my family too. You never know how the Good Lord touches you in ways you never think about!”
Respectfully Linda

This week’s bottom line: I want to personally thank Linda for her donation. When I hear stories like this one, I truly believe that God has intervened. To one person it’s Luck -- but to believers it’s God’s way of getting our attention.
