The Vacation Is Over!
(by Gary Godfrey - August 16, 2010)
We made it!
Ginger returned home safely, and the Godfrey household is back to normal.
Six days without your wife can be a double edge sword. On one hand you have the freedom to do whatever you want. On the other hand, it was quite lonely with only one other female in the house. (Rosie our cocker spaniel)
One thing's for certain, I finished my current “honey do” list.
1. Built a board walk at the bottom of our basement entrance.
2 Put together a steel shelf system in our basement.
3. Fixed the broken molding around our steps inside the living room.
4. Patched a dry wall problem in our bath room.
5. Fixed the front door knob.
6. Installed two new smoke detectors.
7. Transferred titles for a new scooter and cargo trailer.
8. Attached new plates to above.
9. Picked tomatoes, and prepared them for the freezer.
10. Watched every “shoot ‘em up” movie I could find, and changed stations every three minutes or less.
Yes, it was a relaxing six days . . .
Yet, with all that freedom, I have to say, “I missed my darling wife!” I had no one to remind me about my sugar levels. No one to do my laundry. No one to suggest it would be a good day to take a walk. No one to remind me to look up at the stars or the moon. No one to talk to in the morning before work. No one to help me decide what’s good for me. And no one to snuggle close to me at night, that smells good.
I wonder if Ginger feels the way I do, when I’m gone on one of my fishing frips?
This week’s bottom line: Marriage has always been a two-way street. And some times, with road construction.
