Winner's Meats: An Osgood Staple for 79 years!

For the past 79 years, Robert Winner Sons Inc., a family owned business located in the little town of Osgood, has been supplying their quality meats to Darke and the surrounding counties! Winner's have been

purchasing truck loads of young quality steers from their supplier in North Carolina for many years and it has been a great success! They then raise or finish out these steers in their own feedlot till they reach an average weight of around 1,100 pounds. Winner's know that every load of cattle they buy from that supplier are good quality steers and are just what they need to meet the demands of the their customers! They butcher around 20-30 head of cattle each week between their two slaughterhouses along with the 60-70 hogs to fill the orders they acquire weekly. They have halves or whole hogs available to sell also if needed as they will then pull these hogs from their own hog operation to fill these orders. They raise these hogs that they butcher in their own barns from 50 pounds up to the finish weight of around 260 pounds. Winner's plant, harvest, grind and mix their own feed so they know exactly what goes into their animals right up to the point of slaughter. Custom orders are always welcomed, to bring people just what they are looking for from either beef or pork, what ever their customers prefer. Winner's also do allot of custom slaughtering for area farmers that have the same thinking as they do, so they too can get the meat from the animals that they raise themselves. After running these animals through their slaughter area, the carcasses then go immediately to the coolers to be cooled rapidly and sprayed down with an ascetic rinse to prevent any biological growth that may possibly occur. This is just another safeguard Winner's have put into their slaughter operations to assure the meat they process is free from any biological hazards such as E-Coli. They then let these carcasses hang in the coolers for 7 to 10 days so the meat ages and tenderizes. Then the carcasses are moved through the processing area and cut to the customers liking. In 2001 the Winner's slaughterhouse in Osgood where they make allot of their homemade products decided to switch over to a Federally Inspected Establishment. So now they follow the strict guidelines that the USDA has, but this also enables Winner's Meats the ability to ship any of the meat they have processed to anywhere in the United States!
