Dallas Cowboys lineman Josh Brent, charged with intoxication manslaughter in the automobile accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown, had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash last week, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

Brent, 25, had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, the paper reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source. A spokesman for the Irving Police Department said investigators could present evidence to the Dallas County district attorney’s office this week.

Brent, a third-year defensive lineman, is free on $ 500,000 bond. He was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list by the Cowboys on Wednesday, a move that ends his season but allows him to remain with the team.

Police say Brent was speeding Saturday when his vehicle struck a curb and flipped. Brown was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Dallas County medical examiner said he suffered blunt-force trauma to his head and neck.

Brent and Brown were teammates at the University of Illinois.
