    Sweet Sixteen

We had a surprise birthday party for grandchild number six on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Morgan Sargent celebrated her sweet sixteen birthday at her big brothers house near Dayton, OH.

“I really don’t know how this is going to be a surprise with all these cars parked out front of the house,” I announced.

“It doesn’t matter. We just want Morgan to know we all love her, and we all made an effort to be here for her special day,” Ginger countered.

    “I guess you’re right,” I acknowledged.

Everyone was in place when she arrived. First to come in the door was two of Morgan’s best girl friends, then her boy friend, and then her mother, and finally Miss Sixteen!

    “Surprise!!” Everyone yelled in harmony.

The look on her face not only revealed she cared, but also that she was actually surprised.

Grandson number two (Ty and his wife Brianna) went all out with a Sweet Sixteen theme covered with pink everywhere. Two enormous pink iced birthday cakes, banners, and even a pink boa scarf.

Daughter number two (Jennifer) had given Morgan tickets to the
Fraze. They were seeing some young, country singer? So we had to hurry and eat what was on the grill, and dive into the pink cake with ice cream.

I certainly hope my doctor (Swabb) doesn’t read this column this week, because I’m not supposed to eat sweets.

With all the mess cleaned up, it was certainly a grand party. You just can’t beat family, friends, and grub.

This week’s bottom line: I can’t believe our little Morgan is about to start driving. Please. No texting.
